BELLE CHASSE, La. (WGNO) -- Coast Guard crews based in Belle Chasse often provide dramatic video of their recues in the Gulf of Mexico.  But their latest mission was recorded by one of the people who was saved.

Tuesday morning, Tom Mallett headed out of Biloxi with three other people to go fishing.  90 miles off the coast of Louisiana, their 28-foot walkaround fishing boat was slammed by ten-foot seas.  Within two minutes, the boat was underwater, Mallet told WGNO News.

But before the boat sank, Mallet was able to steer it to an oil platform where he and the rest of the fishermen climbed to safety.

His cell phone was the only possession that Mallet was able to bring with him.  After calling 911 for help, he used the phone to record his rescue.
