NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Super Bowl XII was the first one in the Superdome but it wasn't the first one for the city.
In fact, this was New Orleans' fourth Super Bowl, although it was the first one ever played in a dome stadium.
The game pitted Dallas against Denver. As for the field, the New York Times previewed the games, calling the AstroTurf "very hard" and the air "dead, so field goals over 45-yards should not be attempted," the paper published.
While Denver did hit a kick from 47-yards, the game proved to be a dominate win for Dallas.
In the years since then, the state has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Super Dome renovations and the city's signature building has been selected to host seven more Super Bowls and counting.
