NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Superdome is known for all the historic Super Bowls that have been played there and the city for hosting the most Super Bowls along with Miami.

The first three Super Bowls in New Orleans were not at the Superdome, they were held uptown at the original Tulane Stadium which is also where the Sugar Bowl was first played.

Tulane Stadium opened to the public in 1926.

Over the decades, it was eventually expanded and improved with lights and seats for more than 85,000 people.

Super Bowls four, six and nine were all played at Tulane Stadium. It was also where the Saints first played and where Tom Dempsey kicked his record setting field goal.

But the stadium's days were numbered after the Superdome opened.

The final game played there in 1979 was high school football De la Salle versus Rummel.

The next day, Nov. 2, 1979, Tulane president announced the stadium would be demolished.
